In a record-breaking dive at Deep Dive Dubai, the world’s deepest pool, Russian free diving champion Alexey Molchanov dived 60 metres and returned to the surface in 57 seconds, breaking the world record for fastest dive. In the process, he broke all records that were currently held at the location. Molchanov performed the feat using “lung packing,” a breathing technique that allows divers to breathe up to two gallons of air and stay underwater for minutes at a time. He reached the depths of Deep Dive Dubai’s pool in just one breath thanks to this technique, which he has perfected…
A two-year-old girl killed a snake, in revenge for biting her lip while she was playing in the back garden of her home in the village of Kantar, Turkey. The neighbors were alerted when she screamed loudly. A snake was in the little girl’s mouth when they reached the back garden, and she also had bite marks on her lower lip. Apparently, the toddler’s bite was vicious enough to critically injure the reptile. This wasn’t a rubber snake. She had killed a real snake within a few seconds. Immediately after receiving first aid, she was rushed to Bingol Maternity and…
Rajnath Singh, the Indian defence minister, has emphasized the need to reform the United Nations’ structure, saying this worrying shortcoming is a manifestation of the organization’s structural inadequacy. If the United Nations’ structure is not reformed and decision-making is not democratized, it might lose its effectiveness and relevance over time. As he addressed the plenary session of the Moscow Conference on International Security-2022 virtually, Mr. Singh said that reformed multilateralism rests on the reform of the UN Security Council that reflects today’s realities. Major powers’ refusal to change United Nations institutions in tune with time ignores the emerging geopolitical realities…
An origami-style glass building houses a miniature bio-biological dome in which a gigantic kapok tree stands four stories high, forming a closed ecosystem that resembles tropical rainforests with over 3,000 species of plants and animals living under the largest artificial tree on earth. Located in City Walk Dubai, the Green Planet project began on the fourth floor and winds its way down through the vital area. This provides a unique opportunity to see many exotic and tropical animals. A bio-dome consists of four levels, a canopy, a midstory, a forest floor, and a swamped forest. At each level, every part…

According to Brig Abdeljalil Rahim, spokesman for the Sudanese Police’s National Council for Civil Defence, flooding has been a chronic problem for remote cities and villages. According to him, torrential rain has damaged farming lands on an estimated 540…
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida vowed Monday that Japan would never again wage war. This was as members of his cabinet visited a shrine honoring war dead, angering South Korea and China. The relationship between Japan and China was already strained after China conducted unprecedented military exercises around Taiwan. This was following the visit there of House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi this month, Reuters reports. A number of missiles fell in Japan’s Exclusive Economic Zone during the drills. I will live up to this determined oath,” Kishida pledged before a secular gathering in Tokyo, which was also attended by…
A previously unknown small armored dinosaur has been discovered in southern Argentina, a creature which likely walked upright about 100 million years ago through a steamy landscape. They said the Cretaceous Period dinosaur, named Jakapil kaniukura, would have had bony disk-shaped armor covering its neck and back, down to its tail. About 5 feet (1.5 meters) long and weighing 9 to 15 pounds (4-7 kg), it was about the size of an average house cat. In Patagonia’s Rio Negro province’s La Buitrera paleontological zone, its fossilized remains were dug up over the past decade near a dam. Jakapil was described…

The UN humanitarian affairs office, OCHA, said that enormous needs still exist and the future looks bleak despite the unprecedented scale-up of assistance in Afghanistan over the past year. In Afghanistan, UN agencies and their partners continued to provide assistance to nearly 23 million people, or nearly 94 percent of all people in need. A humanitarian operation expanded into all 34 provinces last winter, and their efforts saved lives and averted a famine. The UN’s Humanitarian Coordinator for Afghanistan, Ramiz Alakbarov, stressed that unless a functioning economy and banking system are restored, this tragic reality will continue. It is now…
